{"id":342,"date":"2010-11-24T14:22:22","date_gmt":"2010-11-24T13:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=342"},"modified":"2010-11-24T14:22:22","modified_gmt":"2010-11-24T13:22:22","slug":"climate-change-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2010\/11\/24\/climate-change-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Climate Change Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you hear a dull thud as you read this, it's the digitally-enhanced sound of my heart sinking (again).<\/p>\n<p>At a recent Unesco Executive Board, its panjandrums decided that a special focus on climate change education was just what ESD needed to render it more meaningful. \u00a0 Just to make sure we're all on the same page, in Unesco insider-speak, this is a thematic area of expected results within one of the main lines of action of\u00a0biennial sectorial priority 36 C\/5.<\/p>\n<p>Now, a focus on climate change itself within ESD might just have been ok as part of an integrated programme, as its hard to imagine that this doesn't exist anyway. \u00a0But climate change <em>education<\/em>? \u00a0I think not. \u00a0Yet another adjectival education to get in the way of more meaningful reform. \u00a0As the much missed John Smyth reminded us now and again, changing education was the goal, not tinkering around the (already marginalised) margins. \u00a0 Sad, really. \u00a0Whether it makes any difference on the ground is another matter ...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you hear a dull thud as you read this, it's the digitally-enhanced sound of my heart sinking (again).
