{"id":3781,"date":"2013-05-03T13:22:26","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T12:22:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=3781"},"modified":"2013-05-03T13:22:26","modified_gmt":"2013-05-03T12:22:26","slug":"some-clarity-around-curriculum-aims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2013\/05\/03\/some-clarity-around-curriculum-aims\/","title":{"rendered":"Some clarity around curriculum aims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being confused about English school curriculum aims (statutory, voluntary or otherwise), I recently asked the DfE this;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080\">If you go to:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.gov.uk\/schools\/teachingandlearning\/curriculum\/b00199676\/aims-values-and-purposes\/aims\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">http:\/\/www.education.gov.uk\/schools\/teachingandlearning\/curriculum\/b00199676\/aims-values-and-purposes\/aims<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">... you find three aims for the national curriculum set out. \u00a0On the right, there is a link to part of a 1999 QCA text at:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/media.education.gov.uk\/assets\/files\/pdf\/c\/curriculum%20aims.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #000080\">http:\/\/media.education.gov.uk\/assets\/files\/pdf\/c\/curriculum%20aims.pdf<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"> ... where each of these three aims is elaborated with detailed points. \u00a0\u00a0As the DfE refers to this QCA text\u00a0as \"The overall aims of the National Curriculum\",\u00a0\u00a0this implies that this elaboration should be considered a statutory part of the NC aims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\"> My query is whether this is the case.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>..........................<\/p>\n<p>I got their response today:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">The current aims of the national curriculum are not statutory. \u00a0The closest you can get to statutory aims relates to the whole curriculum rather than the national curriculum alone.
