{"id":5268,"date":"2013-12-13T06:30:22","date_gmt":"2013-12-13T06:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=5268"},"modified":"2013-12-13T06:30:22","modified_gmt":"2013-12-13T06:30:22","slug":"so-was-there-life-in-copernicus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2013\/12\/13\/so-was-there-life-in-copernicus\/","title":{"rendered":"So, was there LiFE in Copernicus?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About a year ago, I wrote this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080\">We are encouraged to take both the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.copernicus-alliance.org\">Copernicus Alliance<\/a>, and EAUC\u2019s LiFE (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeindex.org.uk\/\">Learning in Future Environments<\/a>), seriously, as major initiatives supporting sustainability and learning, and I have no doubt that, for those involved, there is something to be gained by membership. \u00a0But those involved seem as rare as a Vice Chancellor who\u2019s got a good word to say about ESD. \u00a0Building on what remained of the Copernicus <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.leuphana.de\/copernicus\/background\">Campus<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.leuphana.de\/copernicus\/members\/\">Alliance<\/a> currently has <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">19<\/span> members across Europe, more than a third of which are in Austria (with over half of these in Graz). \u00a0 Similarly (although over a shorter time, and only in the UK) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeindex.org.uk\/uk\/our-institutions\/\">LiFE<\/a> has <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">17<\/span> university members signed up. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080\">Who will be the first to 25, I wonder? \u00a0My money (though not much of it) is on LiFE as it seems to have more to offer institutions, even if they are ponderously slow to appreciate this.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, there are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelifeindex.org.uk\/uk\/our-institutions\">now<\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">15<\/span> university members of LiFE, which is something of a backward step, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">21<\/span> universities in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copernicus-alliance.org\">Copernicus<\/a>, <span style=\"color: #000000\">(more than a third of which are still in Austria). \u00a0This\u00a0is not exactly a great leap for<\/span>ward.<\/p>\n<p>So, what does this say about <strong><em>LiFE<\/em> <\/strong>or<strong> <em>Copernicus<\/em><\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><strong> Are they are<\/strong> too pricey for what they offer? \u00a0Or is what they are offering not felt appropriate by those that might join? \u00a0Or is it just that there's a tide ebbing against the joining of such things?<\/p>\n<p>And will they both still be around in 12 months time? \u00a0Well, this time, my money (though still not much of it) is on <strong><em>Copernicus<\/em><\/strong> because of its smart linking with UN processes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About a year ago, I wrote this: We are encouraged to take both the\u00a0Copernicus Alliance, and EAUC\u2019s LiFE (Learning in Future Environments), seriously, as major initiatives supporting sustainability and learning, and I have no doubt that, for those involved, there...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5268","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5268","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5268"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5268\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5268"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5268"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5268"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
