{"id":5617,"date":"2014-01-30T16:10:17","date_gmt":"2014-01-30T16:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=5617"},"modified":"2014-01-30T16:10:17","modified_gmt":"2014-01-30T16:10:17","slug":"hefce-off-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2014\/01\/30\/hefce-off-line\/","title":{"rendered":"Hefce off-line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Hefce consultation <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2014\/01\/30\/hefce-on-line\">meeting<\/a> is over. \u00a0As for, my question ...<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080\">In 2009, Hefce said this: <em>\u201cIt remains our view that the greatest contribution that universities and colleges can make to sustainable development is through the values, skills and knowledge that students learn and put into practice.\u201d <\/em>Why has this sentiment been omitted from the current draft document?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2026 well, it got through the technology \u2013 which worked very well.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion at the end was effective, I felt, largely because people were linking their points with others that had been made, and drawing issues together. Well done all those who were there.<\/p>\n<p>Hefce's Andrew Smith said that \"Hefce's not here to solve all your problems.\" Well, maybe not (actually, definitely not), but I did think they were \"our\" problems, and that a degree of common cause was always part of the Hefce stance. \u00a0Tricky, of course. \u00a0There was something of a comparison between the NHS and Hefce in terms of effecting change which was instructive. \u00a0But, of course, we don't have a <em>National University Service<\/em> \u2013 thank goodness \u2013 and so Hefce is always going to be limited in what it, itself, can do. \u00a0Its in the catalysing, stimulating, exemplifying, encouraging business, but not the proselytising or instructing one.<\/p>\n<p>What's clear however, is that Hefce needs our help so that it can help us. \u00a0Today sounded as if this was being done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hefce consultation meeting is over. \u00a0As for, my question ...
