{"id":5969,"date":"2014-03-27T07:56:14","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T07:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=5969"},"modified":"2014-03-27T07:56:14","modified_gmt":"2014-03-27T07:56:14","slug":"beautiful-and-elegant-as-a-theory-and-pragmatic-and-practical-in-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2014\/03\/27\/beautiful-and-elegant-as-a-theory-and-pragmatic-and-practical-in-application\/","title":{"rendered":"Beautiful and elegant as a theory, and pragmatic and practical in application"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There were two events yesterday competing for my attention; sadly, I could go to neither, but I was able to follow parts of each on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>One was an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org\">Ellen MacArthur Foundation<\/a> conference in Bradford on <em>Rethinking the Future<\/em> [ <em>#rethinking<\/em> ]. \u00a0The other was an ESD Policy Forum in London, run by <a href=\"http:\/\/se-ed.co.uk\/edu\/\">SEEd<\/a> [<em>#ESDevidence<\/em> ].\u00a0\u00a0 Of course, Twitter is hardly a perfect way of experiencing such events, but as far as I could see, the two had much in common, methodologically speaking, in that there were lots of experts telling other people how it is.<\/p>\n<p>However, Twitter does help you see something of what others were thinking about what was going on, and this comment from Ella Jamsin struck me most forcibly:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"beautiful and elegant as a theory, and pragmatic and practical in application\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The question is: was she talking about <em>ESD<\/em> or the <em>circular economy<\/em>? \u00a0 You know the answer \u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were two events yesterday competing for my attention; sadly, I could go to neither, but I was able to follow parts of each on Twitter.
