{"id":5970,"date":"2014-04-02T05:33:41","date_gmt":"2014-04-02T05:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=5970"},"modified":"2014-04-02T05:33:41","modified_gmt":"2014-04-02T05:33:41","slug":"ase-naee-asechat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2014\/04\/02\/ase-naee-asechat\/","title":{"rendered":"ASE + NAEE = #ASEChat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I took part in a Twitter encounter [ #ASEChat ] between the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ase.org.uk\/home\">ASE<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naee.org.uk\">NAEE<\/a> the other night with environmental education as the focus. \u00a0Although I never quite discovered what the purposes were, \u00a0just having an encounter seemed \u00a0almost worthwhile enough given the historic lack of contact between these groups.\u00a0 Pondering it all, afterwards led to my wondering just how you might evaluate such events.\u00a0 What\u2019s to count? \u00a0For example, which of these might matter:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The number of people taking part<\/li>\n<li>The range of people involved<\/li>\n<li>The number of tweets produced<\/li>\n<li>The extent of interchanges between people (as opposed to mere statements)<\/li>\n<li>Retweetings<\/li>\n<li>Favouritings<\/li>\n<li>Whether anything remotely sensible was said<\/li>\n<li>Whether anyone seemed to learn anything<\/li>\n<li>Whether anything happened as a result ...<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Clearly, there are things here that you can count, and some do tell you potentially useful things: the number bothering to get involved, for example. \u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">The ASE, which hosted the event, says that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">36<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\"> people took part with<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">210<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\"> tweets during the hour (and \u00a0more outside the allotted time).\u00a0 Of course this only captures the data flowing through #ASEchat, and other conversations did take place outwith that. \u00a0Time will tell whether this has been a stimulus\u00a0<\/span>for NAEE to engage further\u00a0with a major institutional beast which, historically, has not taken environmental education\u00a0all that seriously.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I took part in a Twitter encounter [ #ASEChat ] between the ASE and NAEE the other night with environmental education as the focus. \u00a0Although I never quite discovered what the purposes were, \u00a0just having an encounter seemed \u00a0almost worthwhile...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5970","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5970","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5970"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5970\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5970"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5970"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5970"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
