{"id":6025,"date":"2014-06-06T06:15:06","date_gmt":"2014-06-06T06:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6025"},"modified":"2014-06-06T06:15:06","modified_gmt":"2014-06-06T06:15:06","slug":"environmental-education-in-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2014\/06\/06\/environmental-education-in-japan\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental Education in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I spent a stimulating few hours\u00a0earlier\u00a0this\u00a0week with two visiting researchers from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nies.go.jp\/gaiyo\/index-e.html\">Japanese National Institute for Environmental Studies<\/a>. \u00a0They came to the UK to look at policies and practices around environmental education of all things. \u00a0How refreshing.<\/p>\n<p>Bath was their first stop where they met Steve Gough and myself. \u00a0It was a great opportunity to compare\u00a0practice \u2013 and policies \u2013 around schooling and didactics,\u00a0and, in the land that gave us the ESD Decade,\u00a0about\u00a0how environmental education\u00a0and ESD do (and don't) inter-play. \u00a0Given Japan's recent experiences of\u00a0natural disasters and their impact on its technological infrastructure (and, as a consequence, their confidence in it), it's no wonder that there\u00a0should be a desire to\u00a0improve people's understanding of environmental issues \u2013 and risk. \u00a0It would be a good thing here as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I spent a stimulating few hours\u00a0earlier\u00a0this\u00a0week with two visiting researchers from the Japanese National Institute for Environmental Studies. \u00a0They came to the UK to look at policies and practices around environmental education of all things. \u00a0How refreshing.
