\"I\u2019m really pleased to say that our [AGM] guest speakers will be Newman Burdett, Head of Centre for International Comparisons, and Bethan Burge, National Research Co-ordinator, at the National Foundation for Educational Research. \u00a0We all know that measuring the impact of global learning is crucial to winning people over to its impact \u2013 whether government, funders or educators \u2013 and to improving global learning practice. \u00a0We also know that it is incredibly difficult to do. \u00a0That is why we\u2019ve invited the NfER as our guest speaker this year. \u00a0The NfER is at the heart of education evaluation in the UK, including the OECD\u2019s PISA assessments \u2013 which is important because in 2018, PISA will be measuring \u2018global competences\u2019 \u2013 but also in PIAAC (which is the adult equivalent of PISA), and has been involved in the evaluation of the Global Schools Partnerships Programme. \u00a0The NfER team has also been involved in studies of active citizenship in Europe. \u00a0This will make for an interesting and provocative session, as we look at \u2018Measuring Global Skills\u2019 from a different angle. \u00a0Please book your ticket early. \u00a0It\u2019s free for members, but places are limited. \u00a0Immediately after lunch, from 2-3pm, we\u2019ll be holding our Annual General Meeting, so I hope you will be able to stay around to hear more about our work and to discuss plans for the next year.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
It must be easy this globaling<\/em> business. \u00a0All you have to do is to find a handy noun, stick 'global' in front of it, and you're away. \u00a0For example, global issues \/\u00a0global learning \/ global competences \/ global skills \/ global citizens \/ global citizenship\u00a0\/ global citizenship skills \/ global literacy \/ global values \/ global thinking \/ global justice \/ global justaboutanythingatall<\/em>. \u00a0But what does it all mean \u2013 if anything. \u00a0I suspect it means whatever you want it to \u2013 as I said, easy.<\/p>\n
