{"id":6133,"date":"2014-10-21T07:36:47","date_gmt":"2014-10-21T07:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6133"},"modified":"2014-10-22T07:15:05","modified_gmt":"2014-10-22T07:15:05","slug":"theres-a-really-good-living-to-be-made-out-of-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2014\/10\/21\/theres-a-really-good-living-to-be-made-out-of-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"There's a really good living to be made out of climate change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There was evidence for this aplenty in Oxford the other day as the idea and practice of capitalism came in for another routine bashing.<\/p>\n<p>That's a\u00a0great thing about capitalism, of course, it affords niches not just for business and social enterprise, but also for commentators and critics, to help our understanding of social and other phenomena. \u00a0That's why \"literally\" (according to the breathless bloke who introduced them) many hundreds turned out to hear Naomi Klein and Vivienne Westwood tell them how tough\u00a0life was going to be under climate change. \u00a0If\u00a0you have a strong stomach, you can see the event <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6oRb_nV0AFU\">here<\/a>, introduction and all.<\/p>\n<p>I could not bear listening to it all, but I think that I heard Klein say that capitalism would have to change and that whole industries would disappear. \u00a0Dear me! \u00a0Such insight. \u00a0I hope no one paid\u00a0to hear this. \u00a0Reassuringly, re-inventing itself as times change,\u00a0is what capitalism is quite good at. \u00a0There may still be hope ...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There was evidence for this aplenty in Oxford the other day as the idea and practice of capitalism came in for another routine bashing.
