{"id":6149,"date":"2014-11-12T11:44:53","date_gmt":"2014-11-12T11:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6149"},"modified":"2014-11-12T11:44:53","modified_gmt":"2014-11-12T11:44:53","slug":"aichi-nagoya-7-mind-that-gap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2014\/11\/12\/aichi-nagoya-7-mind-that-gap\/","title":{"rendered":"Aichi-Nagoya 7 \u2013 Mind that GAP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNESCO's Global Action Programme [ GAP ] replaces the DESD on the 1st January 2015 and is intended as \"a concrete, tangible contribution to the post-2015 agenda.\"<\/p>\n<p>Its objectives are to ...<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reorient education and learning so that everyone has the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that empower them to contribute to sustainable development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>strengthen education and learning in all agendas, programmes and activities that promote sustainable development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To enable strategic focus and foster stakeholder commitment, the GAP has five priority action areas:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em><strong>Advancing policy<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 Mainstream ESD into both education and sustainable development policies, to create an enabling environment for ESD and to bring about systemic change<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Transforming learning and training environment<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Integrate sustainability principles into education and training settings<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Building capacities of educators and trainers<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 Increase the capacities of educators and trainers to more effectively deliver ESD<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Empowering and mobilising youth<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 Multiply ESD actions among youth<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Accelerating sustainable solutions at local level<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 At community level, scale up ESD programmes and multi-stakeholder ESD networks<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Here are\u00a0some observations \u2013 and predictions:<\/p>\n<p>1. The Objectives are so unspecific\u00a0as to be more properly Aims.<\/p>\n<p>2. Neither mention ESD, as they are written to apply to all education and training.<\/p>\n<p>3. This is good! \u00a0People might take notice.<\/p>\n<p>4. But all\u00a0the action areas all apply to ESD.<\/p>\n<p>5. That is, sadly, they <em>only<\/em> apply to ESD.<\/p>\n<p>6. This\u00a0relieve all the rest of humanity\u00a0\u2013 who know nothing of ESD, and care less \u2013 of the need to do anything at all.<\/p>\n<p>7. How marvellous! \u00a0Another UNESCO triumph.<\/p>\n<p>8.
