{"id":6220,"date":"2015-02-06T08:01:14","date_gmt":"2015-02-06T08:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6220"},"modified":"2015-02-06T08:01:14","modified_gmt":"2015-02-06T08:01:14","slug":"get-carter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/02\/06\/get-carter\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Carter?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I've been reading the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/396391\/Carter_Review_16012015.pdf\">Carter Review<\/a> of ITT in England. \u00a0It'd dedicated stuff, this blogging.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the review was\u00a0to identify which \"core elements of high quality ITT across phases and subject disciplines are key to equipping trainees with the required skills and knowledge to become outstanding teachers.\" \u00a0In addition, it was\u00a0charged with the task of looking at how to improve \"transparency of training offers\" and access to courses. \u00a0For a sceptical perspective on the process, see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsavage.org.uk\/ite\/60-andrew-carters-itt-review-panel-experience-itt-matter\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Were I not blissfully retired, I'd probably have had to read this earnest stuff more carefully that I have, if only to enable an informed management discussion about what, if anything, to do about it. \u00a0Instead, I gave it the once over, from an ESD perspective. \u00a0This did not take long. \u00a0Here's my report:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>1. There is no mention of ESD or sustainability etc. \u00a0In that sense, the document is timeless.<\/p>\n<p>2. There are plenty of mentions of \"environment\", but all these, whether literal of metaphoric, are all internal to the school.<\/p>\n<p>3. Similarly, all the mentions of \"sustain\" (etc) are in the sense of enduring.<\/p>\n<p>4.
