{"id":6247,"date":"2015-02-25T07:55:19","date_gmt":"2015-02-25T07:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6247"},"modified":"2015-02-25T07:55:19","modified_gmt":"2015-02-25T07:55:19","slug":"deep-learning-and-the-rise-of-the-machines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/02\/25\/deep-learning-and-the-rise-of-the-machines\/","title":{"rendered":"Deep Learning and the rise of the machines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I watched a TEDx talk by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.enlitic.com\">Jeremy Howard<\/a>\u00a0on <a href=\"http:\/\/deeplearning.net\">deep learning<\/a> and the rise of the machines. \u00a0You can see it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/jeremy_howard_the_wonderful_and_terrifying_implications_of_computers_that_can_learn\">here<\/a>. \u00a0Prepare to be just a little bit impressed. \u00a0It might have been coincidence (or media-smart machines at work), but there has been quite a bit of <a href=\"http:\/\/googleresearch.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/11\/a-picture-is-worth-thousand-coherent.html\">coverage<\/a>\u00a0of deep learning recently, and of associated things such as success in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/news-and-events\/releases\/PR583836.aspx\">Turing Test<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a great talk by Howard, I thought. I did wonder about his use of the word \"understand\", however.
