{"id":6254,"date":"2015-02-24T07:13:49","date_gmt":"2015-02-24T07:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6254"},"modified":"2015-02-24T07:31:39","modified_gmt":"2015-02-24T07:31:39","slug":"new-sdgs-risk-failure-without-clearer-targets-says-new-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/02\/24\/new-sdgs-risk-failure-without-clearer-targets-says-new-report\/","title":{"rendered":"New SDGs \"risk failure without clearer targets\" says new report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030 risk failure without clearer, more measurable targets that are based on the latest scientific evidence, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icsu.org\/publications\/reports-and-reviews\/review-of-targets-for-the-sustainable-development-goals-the-science-perspective-2015\/SDG-Report.pdf\">report<\/a>\u00a0from the <em>International Council for Science and the International Social Science Council<\/em>, has warned \u2013 as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trust.org\/item\/20150212190135-jmtes\/?source=fiTheWire\">Reuters<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/roadtoparis.info\/2015\/02\/12\/science-building-perfect-world\/\">others<\/a>, note.<\/p>\n<p>The 17 SDGs are set to replace the 8\u00a0Millennium Development Goals. \u00a0However, the report says that the 169 targets related to the\u00a0draft goals rely too much on vague language, and would be more effective if set against numerical indicators. \u00a0The research concludes\u00a0that only a third of the targets were well defined and based on the latest scientific evidence, while more than half needed more work;
