{"id":6266,"date":"2015-03-11T07:24:43","date_gmt":"2015-03-11T07:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6266"},"modified":"2015-03-11T07:24:43","modified_gmt":"2015-03-11T07:24:43","slug":"surprising-news-from-the-ofsted-bunker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/03\/11\/surprising-news-from-the-ofsted-bunker\/","title":{"rendered":"Surprising news from the Ofsted Bunker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ofsted has announced that under its new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/ofsted-confirms-radical-reforms-to-education-inspection\">common inspection framework<\/a>, inspectors will, from September, make judgements about the personal development, behaviour and welfare of leaners.<\/p>\n<p>They\u00a0will look at the extent to which institutions are successful at supporting pupils to gain knowledge of how to keep themselves healthy, including through exercise and healthy eating. \u00a0In order to form judgements, inspectors will have to look for a health and well-being culture throughout the school, and will have to talk to school leaders about how they help to ensure a healthy lifestyle for pupils by helping them gain knowledge of a good diet, physical exercise and mental and physical wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>I am rather surprised by all this, but welcome it. \u00a0I'm told that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schoolfoodplan.com\">school food plan<\/a> was highly influencial, as was pressure from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\"><em>NHS\u00a0England<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0All Ofsted has to do now, it seems, is to train all its inspectors to deliver consistent and appropriate judgements \u2013 something it has always found <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/01\/12\/ofsted-just-gimme-some-truth\/\">hard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I hope that all inspectors will be required\u00a0to have their lunch with students as part of these visits, and see this as a formal part of the day. \u00a0Buon appetito!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ofsted has announced that under its new common inspection framework, inspectors will, from September, make judgements about the personal development, behaviour and welfare of leaners.
