{"id":6365,"date":"2015-06-29T05:40:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T05:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6365"},"modified":"2015-06-29T05:40:00","modified_gmt":"2015-06-29T05:40:00","slug":"another-weec-another-two-conferences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/06\/29\/another-weec-another-two-conferences\/","title":{"rendered":"Another WEEC, another two conferences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three conferences in one WEEC \u2013 and what to do?<\/p>\n<p>There's <a href=\"http:\/\/weec2015.org\">WEEC<\/a>\u00a08 in G\u00f6teborg at the start of the weec, but enough's been <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/06\/23\/less-than-a-weec-to-go\/\">said<\/a> for now about that. \u00a0Then there's the National <a href=\"http:\/\/se-ed.co.uk\/edu\/nssc2015\/\">Sustainable Schools<\/a> conference in Bristol, and the\u00a0International <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lotc.org.uk\/2015\/05\/lessons-from-near-and-far-research-and-policy-international-outdoor-learning-conference\/\">Outdoor Learning<\/a> Conference in London, which are on at the end. \u00a0I'm going to the last of these whose strap line is\u00a0<em>Lessons from Near &amp; Far: Research &amp; Policy. \u00a0<\/em>Here's the morning programme:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Opening Address<\/strong><\/em>:\u00a0Andy Clements defines the Issues<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Session 1<\/strong><\/em>: 3 inputs \u2013 Comparing responses: How do different countries achieve benefits using research and policy?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>School-based learning in Natural Environments: Lessons for policy and research from the Natural Connections Demonstration Project in England<\/li>\n<li>Outdoor Learning in Singapore: Past, Present and Future<\/li>\n<li>Why Denmark is Investing in Outdoor Learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Session 2<\/strong><\/em>: 2 inputs \u2013 Examples of UK Research \/ Policy Interface Interaction<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uncertainty, agency, authenticity: Learning in Natural Environments and purposeful real life learning for resilient youth<\/li>\n<li>The impact of residential experiences on pupils\u2019 health and learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the afternoon there are four small groups to choose one from \u2013 more presentations. \u00a0These notionally focus on <em>place, curriculum, methodology <\/em>and<em> policy, <\/em>but\u00a0there are papers\u00a0on 'place'\u00a0in the curriculum and policy sessions as well.\u00a0 All very confusing, but it'll be ok on the night, I guess. \u00a0In the final session, Karen Malone talks about bringing together key lessons emerging from the conference about how policy and research might be better linked to support delivery and add value to practice in this area.<\/p>\n<p>As ever with these events, there will be a lot of sitting and listening. \u00a0Even the pre-lunch session [Reflections from the Floor]\u00a0will be a panel discussion &amp; questions where Karen Malone (again) will \"sum up themes emerging from morning session and set up afternoon sessions.\"<\/p>\n<p>Why do organisers seem to think that this is what people want? \u00a0Apprehensive, I suppose, of letting us\u00a0loose to raise own\u00a0own issues.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three conferences in one WEEC \u2013 and what to do?
