{"id":6367,"date":"2015-06-30T16:58:18","date_gmt":"2015-06-30T16:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6367"},"modified":"2015-06-30T16:58:18","modified_gmt":"2015-06-30T16:58:18","slug":"weecly-update-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/06\/30\/weecly-update-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Weecly Update 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If so minded, you can follow the official outpourings of WEEC 8 on Twitter: @WEEC2015 \u00a0\u2013 but you really should be outside. \u00a0Here are a few of the\u00a0highlights so far (and my indented comments ...)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingrid Pramling Samuelsson<\/strong><\/em> talks about the importance of education for all when it comes to EE and ESD<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Maybe. \u00a0But ESD \/ EE \/ EFS \/ LSD \/ SDE \/ etc \/ etc have never been of any importance to those within UNESCO who are focused on EFA<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em><strong>Irina Bokova<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0\"ESD must stand at the heart of the new Post 2015 development agenda.\"<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is not what UNESCO's new report on Global Citizenship Education [GCE] says \u2013 where there is no emphasis on ESD; indeed, hardly a mention.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Job Bickling\u00a0<\/strong>Resistance to Cartesian thinking: \"To understand differently we need to be in the world differently\u00a0in the world differently ... less separation through abstract thinking and walls.\"<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Is this statement so utterly profound as to shake neo-liberal capitalism's very foundations, or has careless proof-reading reduced it to nonsense? \u00a0My money's on the latter given that JB has form.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Arjen Wals\u00a0<\/strong><em>\"<\/em>Critical thinking (e.g. questioning taken-for-granted values, behaviours and systems) and disrupting unsustainable systems \/ routines is critical.\"<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Well, up to a point, because that's what <em>IS \/ ISIS \/ ISIL \/ whatever<\/em> thinks as well. \u00a0They have infantry and tanks, and we only have UNESCO, which doesn't seem fair. \u00a0The point is that such critical\u00a0thinking has to have a value base that takes people and planet, and their inter-relationship, seriously.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Mirian Vilela<\/strong>\u00a0says that the peace agenda is part of the sustainability agenda<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Indeed, who's against peace, you might wonder? \u00a0Me for one, if the cost\u00a0is too high. \u00a0Odd, isn't it that a sustainable world always seems to have to be a peaceful one. \u00a0But suppose that\u00a0sustainability needs\u00a0protecting against the intolerant? \u00a0 I think it's time to reach for the\u00a0Belloc:<\/p>\n<p><em>Pale Ebeneezer thought it wrong to fight,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But Roaring Bill, who killed him, thought it right.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If so minded, you can follow the official outpourings of WEEC 8 on Twitter: @WEEC2015 \u00a0\u2013 but you really should be outside. \u00a0Here are a few of the\u00a0highlights so far (and my indented comments ...)
