{"id":6442,"date":"2015-09-10T07:29:21","date_gmt":"2015-09-10T07:29:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6442"},"modified":"2015-09-10T07:29:21","modified_gmt":"2015-09-10T07:29:21","slug":"making-the-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/09\/10\/making-the-cut\/","title":{"rendered":"Making the Cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was ridiculously pleased to see that one of my papers made it into EER's\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/explore.tandfonline.com\/content\/ed\/ceer-vsi\">Virtual Special Issue<\/a> on studies of environmental and sustainability education (ESE) policy.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u00a0is the VSI's <a href=\"http:\/\/explore.tandfonline.com\/content\/ed\/ceer-vsi\/intro-ecer-vsi\">editorial<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Katrien Van Poeck (Ghent) and\u00a0Jonas A. Lysgaard (Aarhus), in which they set the rationale for the collection, and describe the contents. \u00a0Actually, \"describe\" is a poor word here as this, for the most part, is a scholarly and thoughtful piece of writing.<\/p>\n<p>One of the inevitable outcomes of compilations such as these is that readers will look at what's there and ask themselves [a] what's missing, and [b] what is lucky to be included. \u00a0This is all to the good as it helps everyone think about the field they toil\u00a0within. \u00a0Equally inevitably, perhaps, is that [a] will outnumber [b] because it's hard to make these choices, and because folk are willing to\u00a0include quite terrible papers\u00a0\"so that the arguments can be heard\". \u00a0This is a familiar refrain for those of us in the UK at the moment, albeit in a different context. \u00a0The outcome will likely be much the same, however.<\/p>\n<p>As for me, whilst my [a] list could be\u00a0quite long, there's only one I'd have omitted. \u00a0Indeed, I think that the paper in question is such an\u00a0egregiously unscholarly rant that even recycling is too good for it. \u00a0I sensed the editors felt much the same as their endorsement was distinctly qualified. \u00a0Regular readers of the blog, as they scan the contents, will know which one I mean.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was ridiculously pleased to see that one of my papers made it into EER's\u00a0Virtual Special Issue on studies of environmental and sustainability education (ESE) policy.
