{"id":6494,"date":"2015-11-05T08:37:09","date_gmt":"2015-11-05T08:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6494"},"modified":"2015-11-08T09:26:51","modified_gmt":"2015-11-08T09:26:51","slug":"does-australia-really-want-cop21-to-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/11\/05\/does-australia-really-want-cop21-to-fail\/","title":{"rendered":"Does Australia really want COP21 to fail?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Why Australia wants Paris to fail - a coal exporting country's perspective on plans to cut global emissions<\/em>, is the title of next week's<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/i-see\/events\/\"> I-SEE<\/a> seminar in Bath by\u00a0Dr <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tai.org.au\/content\/structure\">Richard Denniss<\/a>, the chief economist of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tai.org.au\">Australia Institute<\/a>. \u00a0This is his\u00a0abstract:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>As world leaders prepare to make new commitments to tackle climate change in Paris, Australia is preparing to build some of the world's largest export coal mines. \u00a0The Adani\/Carmichael mine which was recently granted approval by the new Turnbull Government will produce more than 2 billion tonnes of coal, enough to make a pile of coal 10 metres wide, 1 metre deep and 200,000 kilometres long.
