{"id":6540,"date":"2016-01-21T07:42:07","date_gmt":"2016-01-21T07:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6540"},"modified":"2016-01-21T07:42:07","modified_gmt":"2016-01-21T07:42:07","slug":"teesnet-conference-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2016\/01\/21\/teesnet-conference-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"TEESNet Conference 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The focus of the 2015 TEESNet Conference was\u00a0<em>Monitoring Education for Global Citizenship: A Contribution to Debate<\/em>. \u00a0I didn't go as it seems to me that trying to introduce\u00a0EGC is just as bad as encouraging ESD \u2013 that is, it diverts attention from the more substantive goal of changing education. \u00a0As John Smyth noted a long while back, whilst adjectival educations might enthuse activists, they only discourages the majority who are getting on with what <em>they<\/em> see as important.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, in 2016, TEESNet is having another go, and the focus of this\u00a0conference is: <em>Measuring What's Valuable or Valuing What's Measurable: Monitoring and Evaluation in Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship. \u00a0<\/em>This is a title that will please the Welsh as it may well\u00a0breathe some life into\u00a0their failed ESDGC initiatives. \u00a0TEESNet says the conference\u00a0will\u00a0\"<em>draw together practioners, educators and researchers to consider these issues, and share ideas<\/em>\". \u00a0It won't, of course, as most of those who fall into those categories will stay at home. \u00a0This will be an event run by activists for activists.<\/p>\n<p>TEESNet adds that, with the PISA\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/zforvjv\">review<\/a> of global competencies coming up, it\u00a0is a crucial time to be considering this, and no doubt there is something in this. \u00a0It also draws attention to a 2015 <a href=\"http:\/\/deeep.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DEEEP4_QualityImpact_Report_2014_web2.pdf\">report<\/a> from\u00a0DEEEP that aimed to \"<em>provide a stimulus for further thought, work and debate in the design of assessment frameworks for an education that supports people in living fulfilling lives in a changing, globalised world\".<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I didn't <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2015\/03\/26\/no-publication-for-older-men\/\">think<\/a> much of this when I first tried to read it on line. \u00a0Maybe the pdf will be better. \u00a0Maybe ESDGC will change the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The focus of the 2015 TEESNet Conference was\u00a0Monitoring Education for Global Citizenship: A Contribution to Debate. \u00a0I didn't go as it seems to me that trying to introduce\u00a0EGC is just as bad as encouraging ESD \u2013 that is, it diverts...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6540","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6540","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6540"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6540\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6540"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6540"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6540"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
