{"id":6618,"date":"2016-04-06T06:15:51","date_gmt":"2016-04-06T06:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6618"},"modified":"2016-04-06T06:15:51","modified_gmt":"2016-04-06T06:15:51","slug":"motivated-rejection-of-climate-science-causes-tools-and-effects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2016\/04\/06\/motivated-rejection-of-climate-science-causes-tools-and-effects\/","title":{"rendered":"Motivated rejection of (climate) science: causes, tools, and effects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This was the title of the I-SEE <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/i-see\/events\/\">seminar<\/a> the other week\u00a0by\u00a0Professor Stephan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cogsciwa.com\">Lewandowsky<\/a>, a cognitive scientist at the University of Bristol. \u00a0This is his Abstract:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"<em>Although the relevant scientific community long ago settled on the conclusion that human economic activities are causing climate change through the emission of greenhouse gases, a small but vocal number of dissenters remains unswayed by the evidence. I examine the cognitive and motivational factors that underlie the rejection of scientific evidence, and I illustrate the techniques by which contrarians seek to shape public debate and mislead the public.
