{"id":6622,"date":"2016-03-22T08:17:26","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T08:17:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6622"},"modified":"2016-03-22T08:17:26","modified_gmt":"2016-03-22T08:17:26","slug":"weec-in-the-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2016\/03\/22\/weec-in-the-head\/","title":{"rendered":"WEEC in the head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sadly, there is now an EESD manifesto for Europe. \u00a0I think it comes from our friends at WEEC. \u00a0The email alert says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Environmental education towards sustainable development (EESD) is a necessity. \u00a0There\u2019s a wide acknowledgement about that on several European and International papers. \u00a0Recently,\u00a0the\u00a0Paris Agreement\u00a0resulting from the\u00a0CoP21\u00a0dedicates\u00a0its\u00a0conclusions\u00a0on the\u00a0World\u00a0Wide View\u00a0global debate,\u00a0which involved\u00a010,000\u00a0people\u00a0from 76 countries and places education\u00a0at the first\u00a0level\u00a0action against the\u00a0climate challenge!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The\u00a0Manifesto\u00a0\"Educate towards environment\u00a0and sustainable development\", at which\u00a0contributedmore than 150\u00a0participants, associations and institutions involved in\u00a0EESD\u00a0from different Europeancountries, assumes\u00a0that the commitments made\u00a0by Member States, as well as by the European Union, are still\u00a0not enough\u00a0significant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In order to realize\u00a0an ambitious\u00a0EESD\u00a0in Europe,\u00a0the\u00a0Manifesto\u00a0brings together\u00a020\u00a0proposals that seek school sector,\u00a0non-formal\u00a0education,\u00a0higher education,\u00a0the labor sector,\u00a0professionalism\u00a0and evaluation of\u00a0the\u00a0EESD, and\u00a0finally, an\u00a0effective integration of\u00a0EESD in\u00a0the heart\u00a0of European policies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The\u00a0Manifesto\u00a0\u00a0is destined\u00a0to MEPs, to the European Commission, the Economic and SocialCommittee, the Committee of Regions and all citizens. \u00a0<\/em><em>To maximize\u00a0its reach, we invite you to\u00a0support\u00a0this\u00a0Manifesto,\u00a0\u00a0through\u00a0your organization and individually, and to spread it widely\u00a0into your networks.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Read the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.for-eesd-in-europe.org\/sites\/default\/files\/manifeste%20EEDD%20-%20English.pdf\">Manifesto<\/a>!<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Whilst it reads better in French, it's still completely baffling as to why anyone would think such a badly-thought out idea\u00a0is a sensible thing to do. \u00a0There are 20 proposals in all; my favourite is No. 15:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Ensure compliance with the recommendations \/ obligations that aim to a systematic inclusion of EESD dimension (awareness, information, education, training, participation, governance) in all environmental policies and sustainable development (water, air, biodiversity, climate, waste, agriculture, energy, landscape, health, transport).
