{"id":6627,"date":"2016-03-28T08:24:03","date_gmt":"2016-03-28T08:24:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6627"},"modified":"2016-03-28T08:24:19","modified_gmt":"2016-03-28T08:24:19","slug":"what-the-poor-need-now-is-transgressive-pedagogies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2016\/03\/28\/what-the-poor-need-now-is-transgressive-pedagogies\/","title":{"rendered":"What the poor need now are transgressive pedagogies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to the <em>Transformative Learning<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/transformativelearning.nl\/2016\/03\/23\/transformative-learning-for-sustainability-special-issue\/\">blog<\/a>\u00a0for alerting me to the \"cutting edge\" special <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/journal\/18773435\/16\">issue<\/a> of\u00a0<em>Current Opinions of Environmental Sustainability, <\/em>which focuses<em>\u00a0<\/em>on\u00a0<em>new requisites to [sic] universities in the 21st century<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The (open access) special issue features ten case studies (from no fewer than five continents) illustrating \"<em>the changing relationship of learning, research and practice in universities<\/em>\". \u00a0Here are the main points\u00a0from one of the papers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pedagogies are required that are not constrained by current use of limited concepts, or by disciplinary decadence.<\/li>\n<li>Concepts such as resilience are problematic if they hold unsustainable systems and patterns in place.<\/li>\n<li>Disruptive capacity building and transgressive pedagogies are needed for a more sustainable world.<\/li>\n<li>Transformative, transgressive forms of learning requires co-learning in multi-voiced and multi-actor formations.<\/li>\n<li>Higher education should provide possibilities for engaged, lived experience of transformative praxis for students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No prizes for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plainenglish.co.uk\">Plain English<\/a>, any time soon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to the Transformative Learning blog\u00a0for alerting me to the \"cutting edge\" special issue of\u00a0Current Opinions of Environmental Sustainability, which focuses\u00a0on\u00a0new requisites to [sic] universities in the 21st century.
