The National Farmers Union thinks that the UK should remain in the EU, although a majority of farmers seem to think otherwise, if a recent poll for\u00a0the Farmers Weekly\u00a0is to be believed. \u00a0It seems that many think that subsidies outside\u00a0the EU might be better (or better-targeted) than in it. \u00a0Well, maybe. \u00a0Perhaps they think that all that green-tape they are faced with (pro-environment regulation to you and me) might be reduced.<\/p>\n
All the Brexiteers I have heard say that subsidies will have to continued, though all have proved coy about at what level, and given that the Brexodus bonus is being spent several times over (hospitals \/ trains\u00a0\/ science \/ Cornwall \/ universities \/Wales \/ \u00a0...), the queue would seem a long one.<\/p>\n
That said, most environmentalists I come across, and environmental educators too, seem to think that wildlife will suffer with a Brexodus as there'll be no Commission to protect it. \u00a0Maybe that applies to farmers too. \u00a0The Economist quotes one Wiltshire Farmer, gazing on his 5,000 acres, as saying: \"We really need the French to fight our corner, and they won't help us outside the EU.\"<\/p>\n
