{"id":6718,"date":"2016-07-14T08:29:04","date_gmt":"2016-07-14T08:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6718"},"modified":"2016-07-14T08:29:04","modified_gmt":"2016-07-14T08:29:04","slug":"people-politics-planet-any-questions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2016\/07\/14\/people-politics-planet-any-questions\/","title":{"rendered":"People, Politics, Planet \u2013 Any Questions?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <em>Society for the Environment<\/em> is organising an\u00a0Any Questions forum about\u00a0<em>People, Politics, Planet <\/em>on July 21st<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The blurb says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Britain in a changing Europe. \u00a0Join us for the first post-referendum public debate on the future of environmental policy in the UK following the vote to leave the European Union, chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby. \u00a0Co-organised by the Sibthorp Trust, the British Ecological Society and the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), with support from the Society for the Environment and the Wellcome Trust.<\/p>\n<p>The UK has voted to leave the European Union, launching the country into a period of uncertainty as a new relationship with Europe and the world is negotiated. \u00a0The EU frameworks that have underpinned much of our environmental policy and legislation \u2013 from agriculture to protected areas \u2013 are no longer assured.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss will lose none of their urgency. \u00a0What will environmental policy in the UK look like outside of the European Union? \u00a0What threats and opportunities does \u2018Brexit\u2019 pose for the environment? \u00a0How will we tackle international challenges under a new political agreement?<\/p>\n<p>Confirmed panellists include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Baroness Kate Parminter, Liberal Democrat (Environment and Rural Affairs)<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Natalie Bennett, Green Party, Leader<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Kerry McCarthy MP, Labour<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I hope that they manage to get some experts there as well as these MPs. \u00a0I'll not be there but I know a man who will, and who will perhaps report back.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Society for the Environment is organising an\u00a0Any Questions forum about\u00a0People, Politics, Planet on July 21st.
