{"id":6744,"date":"2016-08-18T06:47:12","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T06:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6744"},"modified":"2016-08-18T06:47:41","modified_gmt":"2016-08-18T06:47:41","slug":"earth-has-not-anything-to-show-more-fair-in-dublin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2016\/08\/18\/earth-has-not-anything-to-show-more-fair-in-dublin\/","title":{"rendered":"Has Earth anything to show more fair in Dublin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I'm not going to EERA-ECER in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eera-ecer.de\/ecer-2016-dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a> which starts next week. \u00a0It would have been good to see so many familiar faces, but I no longer appreciate sitting around all day (for several days) listening to people read their papers. \u00a0In fact, physically, I find it hard to do; retirement has meant I walk around more, and I find I now need to do it.<\/p>\n<p>I'll be there in spirit, though, and will be re-reading John Wyse Jackson's\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelbooks.co.uk\/shop-online-books\/dublin-poetry-of-place\">Dublin<\/a> (a poetry of place) as a sort of vicarious attendance. \u00a0It's as much a history of troubled Irish \/ English relations, as a collection of prose and poetry about the city that not much poetry has been written about. \u00a0Tellingly, Jackson says that Wordsworth would never have been able to write a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poems-and-poets\/poems\/detail\/45514\">sonnet<\/a>\u00a0like his <em>Composed upon Westminster Bridge, September 3, 1802<\/em> in Dublin as he would not have been able to engage in the inner reflection necessary as somebody would have come up and insisted on talking to him.<\/p>\n<p><em>Dublin<\/em>\u00a0slips into your pocket, can be read as you walk, and contains much to recommend it \u2013 and the city.<\/p>\n<p>The one thing I will, however, regret (well, sort of) is not being able to see the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?s=dove+cottage\">Real Research Collective<\/a>\u00a0present their paper to the EERA-ECER Philosophy network. \u00a0I think that ECER, had it been more entrepreneurial, might have been able to sell tickets to what will surely be the encounter of the conference.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I'm not going to EERA-ECER in Dublin which starts next week. \u00a0It would have been good to see so many familiar faces, but I no longer appreciate sitting around all day (for several days) listening to people read their papers....<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6744","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6744","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6744"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6744\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6744"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6744"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6744"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
