{"id":6901,"date":"2017-03-02T07:31:02","date_gmt":"2017-03-02T07:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6901"},"modified":"2017-03-02T07:31:02","modified_gmt":"2017-03-02T07:31:02","slug":"but-will-there-be-any-teachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2017\/03\/02\/but-will-there-be-any-teachers\/","title":{"rendered":"But will there be any teachers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I'm off to SWLfSC's Teachmeet today. \u00a0I wrote about <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=6887&amp;action=edit\">this<\/a>\u00a010 days ago and wondered whether I'd be talked at for the whole 2 hours<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that there are even more presentations than I thought:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>Big Picture stuff<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ESD Current context for teachers and teaching - Justin Dillon<\/li>\n<li>Systems thinking in the classroom - Stephen Sterling<\/li>\n<li>Free CPD programmes on sustainability education - Paul Vare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Greener schools<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Resource use and waste management - Sheila Gundry<\/li>\n<li>Keep Britain Tidy -Tom Knapper (<em>untidy <\/em>more like)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Different Approaches<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sustainable learning - Clare Marshall<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0John Muir approach - Clare Moody<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Plenary<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Quality education and ESD: reflect on your learning - Mairi Kershaw<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Not many teachers \u2013 although there are two slots in the programme rather condescendingly\u00a0termed: Teacher Exchange.<\/p>\n<p>But maybe I'm guilty of bringing too literal an approach to the notion of Teachmeet. \u00a0Perhaps I should not read this as <em>Teachers Meet<\/em>, let along <em>Meet Teachers<\/em>. \u00a0I looked it up and find it's a Scottish idea. \u00a0This is what <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/TeachMeet\">Wikipedia<\/a> has to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>History<\/strong><\/em>[edit]<br \/>\nOriginally conceived in the summer of 2006 in Edinburgh, Scotland, under the name \"ScotEduBlogs Meetup\". The new name TeachMeet was created by Ewan McIntosh and agreed upon by the attendees of the first event. The 2nd Edition was held in Glasgow on the 20th of September 2006.[3]<\/p>\n<p>The 5th TeachMeet was the first to be held at the\u00a0BETT\u00a0Show in London.[4]<\/p>\n<p>In 2010 TeachMeet 'Takeover' was introduced, where teachers took over vendors stands in the main conference to bring the TeachMeet discussion out of the Apex Room and onto the exhibition floor.[5]<\/p>\n<p>TeachMeets are now regular occurrences in Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, the USA, New Zealand.
