{"id":6966,"date":"2017-05-12T06:12:04","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T06:12:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6966"},"modified":"2017-05-12T06:12:04","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T06:12:04","slug":"eauc-next-generation-sustainability-strategy-and-structure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2017\/05\/12\/eauc-next-generation-sustainability-strategy-and-structure\/","title":{"rendered":"EAUC Next Generation Sustainability Strategy and Structure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I got a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eauc.org.uk\/next_generation_sustainability_strategy_and_str\">report<\/a> from\u00a0EAUC last week:\u00a0<em>Next Generation Sustainability Strategy and Structure:\u00a0Whole-Institution Approaches to Sustainability in Universities and Colleges.<\/em> \u00a0This was the second sentence:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"We work to reposition the agenda at the heart of the leadership and structure of sector institutions and ensure it aligns as a delivery mechanism for member institution\u2019s strategic objectives.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>My sigh at such terrible English expression could probably have been heard\u00a0from a hundred miles away \u2013 and the first sentence wasn't much better. \u00a0Who writes this stuff? \u00a0And does no one in EAUC care about such things?<\/p>\n<p>I decided to soldier on, however, but gave up in exasperation when I got to this on page 5:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"Historically, activity has been limited to environmentally focussed activities based in Estates and Facilities Departments [<em>sic<\/em>], primarily driven over recent years by legislation, such as the HEFCE sector carbon reduction target in England and Scotland\u2019s mandatory carbon reporting.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>No it hasn't \/ wasn't. \u00a0This traduces decades of work by academics and researchers across many institutions where both social justice and environmental issues were focused on. \u00a0How could EAUC of all institutions\u00a0write this? \u00a0Work in universities on environmental issues (viewed broadly) began in the mid-1970s, long before EAUC (or HEFCE) was dreamt up. \u00a0There are some facts that really should be got right. \u00a0You have to wonder if this nonsense gets written to serve a particular interest, or whether it's just plain old-fashioned ignorance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got a report from\u00a0EAUC last week:\u00a0Next Generation Sustainability Strategy and Structure:\u00a0Whole-Institution Approaches to Sustainability in Universities and Colleges. \u00a0This was the second sentence: \"We work to reposition the agenda at the heart of the leadership and structure of sector...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6966","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-new-publications"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6966","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6966"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6966\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6966"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6966"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6966"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
