{"id":6995,"date":"2017-06-27T05:09:40","date_gmt":"2017-06-27T05:09:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=6995"},"modified":"2017-06-27T05:09:40","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T05:09:40","slug":"uk-national-action-plan-on-esd-adopted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2017\/06\/27\/uk-national-action-plan-on-esd-adopted\/","title":{"rendered":"UK National Action Plan on ESD adopted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Great news from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.unesco.org\/news\/german-national-action-plan-esd-adopted\">UNESCO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>On 20 June 2017, the National Platform on ESD, the UK\u00b4s supreme steering body for the implementation of the Global Action Programme on ESD (GAP), has adopted the National Action Plan for GAP implementation. \u00a0It defines 130 objectives and 349 measures to scale up ESD in all areas and at all levels of the UK\u00a0education system.<\/p>\n<p>Based on a two-year participatory multi-stakeholder process, collecting input from expert forums, partner networks and an online consultation for the general public, the action plan targets education plans and curricula as well as pre- and in-service training and education of educators and trainers in formal, non-formal and informal education. Furthermore, the plan focusses on strengthening ESD networks and good practice as well as whole-institution approaches to ESD.<\/p>\n<p>The National Platform on ESD brings together 37 high-level representatives of politics, science, industry and society. It is chaired by a senior civil servant in the Ministry of Education. The\u00a0ministries for environment, family, and economic cooperation and development are taking part in the Platform, as are representatives of the different parts of the UK\u00a0responsible for formal education and schooling.<\/p>\n<p>All members of the National Platform serve as advocates of ESD \u2013 also within their own organizations and institutions. They have been called upon to propose commitments in order to support the implementation of the National Action Plan. Furthermore, the UK\u00b4s big annual ESD conference, the \u201cAgenda Congress\u201d, bringing together 500 stakeholders on 27\/28 November 2017 in Manchester\u00a0will focus on accelerating the implementation of the National Action Plan.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,<\/p>\n<p>I know that all\u00a0this sounds too good to be true, but it is \u2013 it's just not true in the UK. \u00a0Inevitably, perhaps, it's happening in Germany. \u00a0Here's\u00a0more information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bne-portal.de\/en\/education-sustainable-development-germany\/global-action-programme-esd-germany\">Global Action Programme<\/a> on ESD in Germany<\/li>\n<li>German GAP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bne-portal.de\/en\/education-sustainable-development-germany\/gap-implementation-structures-germany\">implementation structures<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This could never happen in the UK. \u00a0That is not necessarily a bad thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Great news from\u00a0UNESCO.
