{"id":7006,"date":"2017-07-13T07:40:13","date_gmt":"2017-07-13T07:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7006"},"modified":"2017-07-13T07:40:13","modified_gmt":"2017-07-13T07:40:13","slug":"ee-and-the-sdgs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2017\/07\/13\/ee-and-the-sdgs\/","title":{"rendered":"EE and the SDGs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was asked the other day for a comment on this: \"EE can help achieve the SDGs\u201d. \u00a0This is obviously an important idea, but for me it begs a prior question:\u00a0how can (and does) education (broadly conceived) help achieve the Goals?<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few thoughts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Given that (up to now) EE remains (at best) a subset of education more generally, it seems a logical necessity to address the broader question first before saying anything about the (inevitably) narrower one.<\/li>\n<li>Education, like EE, has both formal and informal aspects to it and the two intertwine. \u00a0Education and EE are available both to young and old(er) people; most tax-payer money is spent on the former.<\/li>\n<li>Education\u00a0(in schools, etc) is a social strategy that has lots of socio-economic goals to its name; not all these outputs obviously focus on sustainability, though most might conceivably\u00a0contribute to it.<\/li>\n<li>EE (etc) is a broad church with disparate dogmas and multiple highways to salvation in this life.<\/li>\n<li>Crucially, the need for formal education programmes, and equitable and prolonged access to them, are convincing components of the SDGs.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s hard to write the last sentence with EE as the focus in a convincing manner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thus, if I were answering this question, I\u2019d want to begin with Education and work towards EE (etc). \u00a0I\u2019m wondering if that case has been made by anyone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was asked the other day for a comment on this: \"EE can help achieve the SDGs\u201d. \u00a0This is obviously an important idea, but for me it begs a prior question:\u00a0how can (and does) education (broadly conceived) help achieve the...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7006","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7006","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7006"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7006\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7006"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7006"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7006"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
