{"id":7025,"date":"2017-07-26T06:37:25","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T06:37:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7025"},"modified":"2017-07-26T07:24:50","modified_gmt":"2017-07-26T07:24:50","slug":"about-face","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2017\/07\/26\/about-face\/","title":{"rendered":"About FACE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leafuk.org\/leaf\/home.eb\">LEAF<\/a>\u00a0[ <b>L<\/b>inking<strong>\u00a0E<\/strong>nvironment <b>A<\/b>nd <b>F<\/b>arming ] recently merged with (that is,\u00a0acquired)\u00a0FACE [\u00a0<strong>F<\/strong>arming <strong>A<\/strong>nd <strong>C<\/strong>ountryside <strong>E<\/strong>ducation ], although you'd not know this from a look at the front pages of its website, or at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leafuk.org\/leaf\/about\/board_of_trustees.eb\">board<\/a> of directors, none of whom has an education background (although one is a primary school governor). \u00a0And try putting <em>FACE<\/em> into their website's search field to see really how Faceless LEAF has become.<\/p>\n<p>FACE does get a passing reference in the 5 year <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leafuk.org\/eblock\/services\/resources.ashx\/001\/452\/519\/LEAF_5_Year_Strategy_A4_FINAL_July_2017.pdf\">strategy<\/a>, although only because of the acquisition. \u00a0That said, the strategy does say this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"Leading a collaborative approach within the industry for better public engagement and education among consumers, children and young people\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and, under <em>Building public respect for farming<\/em>, LEAF says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\"We will drive a confident, yet visionary approach to build farming\u2019s respect, trust and understanding among consumers, children and young people. \u00a0Working with others, we will continue to develop strong strategic alliances within the farming and education sectors building on our inspiring education and public engagement activities. \u00a0These include LEAF Open Farm Sunday, LEAF Open Farm School Days, Countryside Classroom, Speak Out, LEAF Virtual Farm Walk, Schools' Resources, and inspiring projects. \u00a0We will also identify novel and effective techniques to improve public understanding and trust in food, farming and the environment.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It's clear from this that, although FACE seems to have vanished, not all its activities have. \u00a0Whether they will be quite the same (or rather more corporate) remains to be seen. \u00a0I hope LEAF understands that building public respect for anything requires an educational approach, and not just a communications effort. \u00a0As NAEE notes <a href=\"http:\/\/naee.org.uk\/leafs-education-public-engagement\/\">today<\/a>, there's a chance in September to see how all this is working out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LEAF\u00a0[ Linking\u00a0Environment And Farming ] recently merged with (that is,\u00a0acquired)\u00a0FACE [\u00a0Farming And Countryside Education ], although you'd not know this from a look at the front pages of its website, or at the board of directors, none of whom has...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7025","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7025","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7025"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7025\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7025"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7025"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7025"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
