development goal analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote the other day about the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2017\/11\/10\/10-nov-business-and-the-sustainable-development-goals\/\">Cambridge report<\/a> about business and the sustainable development goals, and I referred in particular to Figure 2.1: <em>Six outcomes and 10 interconnected tasks<\/em> which has finance, business and governtment at the core of the model.<\/p>\n<p>In this analysis, Economy is seen as having three components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basic needs<\/li>\n<li>Wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Decent work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>... with these underpinned by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Climate stability<\/li>\n<li>Healthy ecosystems<\/li>\n<li>Resource security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are inevitable parallels (and non-parallels) to be drawn with the Daly-Meadows way of thinking about all this, but that's for another day.<\/p>\n<p>The 17 goals are then mapped onto these components like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basic needs \u2013<strong>\u00a01 \u00a02 \u00a03 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a015<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Resource security \u2013 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>12<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a pretty minimalist mapping with a tendency to attach one goal to one component. \u00a0The stand-out exception to this (which might be a surprise to many) is Goal <strong>10<\/strong>: <em>reduced inequalities<\/em>, which extends across all components of the economy, whereas Goal <strong>8<\/strong>: <em>decent work and economic growth<\/em>\u00a0only features the once.<\/p>\n<p>Educators will surely wonder at how little Goal <strong>4<\/strong>: <em>quality education<\/em> features. \u00a0Perhaps this just illustrates how little the authors of this analysis know or think about curriculum. \u00a0Or, perhaps again, how much educators tend to inflate the significance of what they
