{"id":7100,"date":"2017-11-22T07:37:49","date_gmt":"2017-11-22T07:37:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7100"},"modified":"2017-11-22T07:37:49","modified_gmt":"2017-11-22T07:37:49","slug":"global-learning-and-education-for-training-dogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2017\/11\/22\/global-learning-and-education-for-training-dogs\/","title":{"rendered":"Global learning and education for training dogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=7099&amp;action=edit\">Harriet Marshall<\/a> the other day. \u00a0In addition to the work that I wrote about then, Harriet has also\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachsdgs.org\/blog\/engaging-with-the-sdgs-in-uk-schools-models-and-ingredients-for-successful-practice\">summarised<\/a> what she sees as six successful models of SDG practice that can be found across\u00a0UK Primary, Middle and Secondary schools. \u00a0In essence, these are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Whole school awareness-raising with class or year groups<\/li>\n<li>Whole school engagement seeing all goals as interlinked, with focus on action &amp; innovation<\/li>\n<li>Linking to other global learning activities and outside organisations<\/li>\n<li>Student ambassadors working inside and outside of school<\/li>\n<li>National Curriculum and subject-focused work<\/li>\n<li>Focus on teacher global learning journey &amp; CPD [<em>sic<\/em>].<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can see these in full <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachsdgs.org\/blog\/engaging-with-the-sdgs-in-uk-schools-models-and-ingredients-for-successful-practice\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst I don't want to query these as models, <em>per se<\/em>,\u00a0I do want to question just how specific they are to the goals. \u00a0They could just as well be related to\u00a0<strong>X<\/strong>, where this can be a range of activities and interests; for example, <em>gardening, first aid<\/em> and (always my favourite) <em>training dogs<\/em>. \u00a0For example:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Successful models of training dogs practice in schools<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Whole school awareness-raising with class or year groups<\/li>\n<li>Whole school engagement seeing all aspects of training dogs as interlinked, with focus on action &amp; innovation<\/li>\n<li>Linking to other training dog activities and outside organisations<\/li>\n<li>Student ambassadors working inside and outside of school<\/li>\n<li>National Curriculum and subject-focused work<\/li>\n<li>Focus on teacher training dogs journey &amp; CPD [<em>sic<\/em>].<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Thus, it is clear that there is nothing in the 6 models that is specific to the goals. \u00a0At one level, that doesn't matter, but at another, isn't it odd given how so much is claimed for the goals?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I mentioned Harriet Marshall the other day. \u00a0In addition to the work that I wrote about then, Harriet has also\u00a0summarised what she sees as six successful models of SDG practice that can be found across\u00a0UK Primary, Middle and Secondary schools....<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7100","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7100","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7100"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7100\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7100"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7100"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7100"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
