So, how\u00a0do<\/em> the SDGs map onto the Daly & Meadows model? \u00a0Here's a first approximation ...<\/p>\n

Wellbeing\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>is the Ultimate End\u00a0\u2013 happiness, fulfillment & enlightenment \u2013 to be achieved through ethics<\/p>\n

Goals: \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>?3: Good Health and Well-Being \u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Human and Social Capital\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>are the Intermediate Ends\u00a0\u2013 health & wealth, knowledge, leisure & mobility, consumer goods \u2013 to be achieved through the political economy<\/p>\n

Goals: <\/strong>1: No Poverty \u00a0\u00a02: Zero Hunger \u00a0 ?3: Good Health and Well-Being \u00a0\u00a04: Quality Education \u00a0\u00a05: Gender Equality \u00a0\u00a010: Reduced Inequalities \u00a0 \u00a011: Sustainable Cities and Communities \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a012: Responsible Consumption and Production \u00a0 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions \u00a0 \u00a0 17: Partnerships for the Goals<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Built and Human Capital\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>are the Intermediate Means\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Manufacturing & infrastructure work, tools & materials \u2013 to be achieved through science & technology<\/p>\n

Goals: <\/strong>8: Decent Work and Economic Growth \u00a0 \u00a09: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Natural Capital\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>provides the Ultimate Means\u00a0\u2013 solar energy, natural cycles and systems, biological resources & minerals<\/p>\n

Goals<\/strong><\/em>: 6: Clean Water and Sanitation \u00a0 \u00a07: Affordable and Clean Energy \u00a0 13: Climate (change) \u00a0 14: Life Below Water \u00a0 \u00a015: Life on Land<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In a way these layers resemble the Stockholm wedding cake, but with the goals distributed differently. \u00a0The cake was:<\/p>\n

The way I have constructed this illustrates how unbalanced the goals are with their strong focus on enhancing human and social justice, and their relative neglect (in Daly \/ Meadows terms) of the point of life. \u00a0It's as though the authors of the goals focus on making things a bit less worse in material terms for a lot of people \u2013 and that's it.<\/p>\n

Of course, there are a lot of people whose lives need to be less worse than they are now, so that is understandable as a priority. \u00a0But that's not everything ...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
