{"id":7155,"date":"2018-01-30T08:36:12","date_gmt":"2018-01-30T08:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7155"},"modified":"2018-01-30T08:36:12","modified_gmt":"2018-01-30T08:36:12","slug":"only-half-the-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2018\/01\/30\/only-half-the-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"Only half the Earth?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to the <a href=\"http:\/\/naee.org.uk\/monday-round-january-15-19\/\">NAEE<\/a> weekly round-up for alerting me to EO Wilson's venture: <em>Nature Needs Half<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The idea here is that nature needs sufficient\u00a0space if it is to\u00a0function properly for the benefit of all life on Earth. \u00a0This means, they say, keeping at least half the planet wild and intact with large, connected eco-regions, both now and in the future.<\/p>\n<p>This seems a necessary idea, and half the earth doesn't seem too much to ask. \u00a0However, given my recent <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2018\/01\/11\/when-a-tiger-walked-home\/\">post<\/a>\u00a0on T3, the tiger that tried to walk home, Wilson and his colleagues will have their work cut out \u2013 as will we all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to the NAEE weekly round-up for alerting me to EO Wilson's venture: Nature Needs Half.
