{"id":728,"date":"2011-07-04T10:22:27","date_gmt":"2011-07-04T09:22:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=728"},"modified":"2011-07-04T10:22:27","modified_gmt":"2011-07-04T09:22:27","slug":"faith-hope-and-something-untranslatable-but-probably-a-heady-but-ineffable-mix-of-love-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2011\/07\/04\/faith-hope-and-something-untranslatable-but-probably-a-heady-but-ineffable-mix-of-love-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"Faith, Hope and something untranslatable, but probably a heady but ineffable mix of Love, Charity, ..."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To Liverpool last week for a first visit to Liverpool <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hope.ac.uk\/index.php\">Hope<\/a> University.<\/p>\n<p>In the morning, I gave a conference keynote on <em>Learning in a Sustainable School \u2013 exploring educational and social benefits<\/em>, and then ran a workshop on <em>Knowing how effectively the development of a sustainable school is progressing?<strong> <\/strong><span style=\"font-style: normal\"> I<\/span><\/em>n the afternoon, I gave a seminar to University academics (and a very welcome, but lone, sustainability manager). \u00a0This turned into a long conversation about sustainability in HE institutions, with a particular focus on Hope's own strongly ethical foundation and what that might mean for their own development. \u00a0All very enjoyable, especially as there was a good mix of interests and specialisms present.<\/p>\n<p>We were in a new building with a fine stained glass panel in the atrium that embodied the institution's crest and motto. \u00a0This was in ancient Greek and I was told it means \u2013 roughly:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Faith, Hope and something untranslatable, but probably a heady but ineffable mix of Love, Charity, ... .<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite this imprecission, there are worse ideas, I thought.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To Liverpool last week for a first visit to Liverpool Hope University.
