{"id":7287,"date":"2018-07-24T05:44:29","date_gmt":"2018-07-24T05:44:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7287"},"modified":"2018-07-24T05:44:29","modified_gmt":"2018-07-24T05:44:29","slug":"71-percent-of-housewives-in-east-lancashire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2018\/07\/24\/71-percent-of-housewives-in-east-lancashire\/","title":{"rendered":"71 percent of housewives in East Lancashire ..."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was struck by two things in a recent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.climateactionprogramme.org\/news\/bring-back-onshore-wind-in-britain-says-new-poll?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=Ireland+makes+world+s+first+pledge+to+divest+from+fossil+fuels+-+Climate+Action+News&amp;utm_campaign=CA+Newsletter+17+July+2018\">report<\/a> by<strong> RenewableUK <\/strong>(a\u00a0trade body)\u00a0which said this:<\/p>\n<p>\"66% of respondents to a new poll of 3,609 adults said they would like to see onshore wind farms built where it has local support; only 15% opposed the proposal.\"<\/p>\n<p>I wanted much more detail, thinking of the nuance available when Esther Pigeon presented an exotic ices market survey report to Reggie Perrin:<\/p>\n<p>\"<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>71% of housewives in East Lancashire and 81% in Hertfordshire expressed an interest in the concept of exotic ice-creams. \u00a0Only 8% in Hertfordshire and 14% in Lancashire expressed positive hostility, whilst 5% expressed latent hostility. \u00a0In Hertfordshire, 96% of the 50% who formed 20% of consumer spending were in favour. \u00a00.6% told us where we could put our exotic ice cream<\/em>s.\"<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The RenewableUK report added:<\/p>\n<p>\"Current policy excludes onshore wind from competing for Government contracts; the Conservative administration has also created hurdles in the planning process to prevent wind farms from going ahead. \u00a0This runs contrary to public opinion, highlighted by the YouGov poll, which favours onshore wind over other infrastructure options. \u00a0At 23%, support is higher for wind farms than railway lines (22%), housing (17%), and nuclear power (2%).\"<\/p>\n<p>I note that support is higher for wind farms than for railway lines. \u00a0No doubt it's also higher for prosecco than for cabbage, but so what? \u00a0And do only 2% of the public really support nuclear power? \u00a0Have the other 98% no idea of the jam we'd be in if it was to be phased out, German style? \u00a0Or is it only another emotional knee-jerk preference?<\/p>\n<p>.....................................<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, RenewableUK <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renewableuk.com\/news\/409781\/Governments-Feed-in-Tariff-announcement-is-major-blow-for-small-scale-renewables.htm\">noted<\/a> its\u00a0disappointment that the Government has closed the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) which supports the deployment of small-scale renewables such as solar panels and small wind turbines, with no policy to replace it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was struck by two things in a recent\u00a0report by RenewableUK (a\u00a0trade body)\u00a0which said this: \"66% of respondents to a new poll of 3,609 adults said they would like to see onshore wind farms built where it has local support;...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7287","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7287","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7287"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7287\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7287"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7287"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7287"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
