{"id":7381,"date":"2019-01-28T10:48:42","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T10:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7381"},"modified":"2019-01-28T10:48:42","modified_gmt":"2019-01-28T10:48:42","slug":"local-climate-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/01\/28\/local-climate-debate\/","title":{"rendered":"Local climate debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My local independent free newspaper \u2013 the MIN \u2013 is actually quite good. \u00a0It carries lots of stories (most of them positive) about local activities and paints a fine picture of town and village life. \u00a0It's view on Wiltshire Council is probably less than even-handed, but it will likely say that this is about holding the elected to account. \u00a0Quite right.<\/p>\n<p>Then there are the letters (including occasionally from me). \u00a0Other people's letters are often long-winded, complaining, catty, and sometimes about feuds and festering grievances. \u00a0Occasionally, they are simple thanks for the recovery of a lost purse, wallet, dog or hat. \u00a0I read them all. \u00a0The following, which speaks loudly about the level of climate knowledge and debate in the MIN, needs no explication:<\/p>\n<p><em>Dear Sir<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Global warming is the most serious issue today. \u00a0The scientists say we only have eleven years to get it right. \u00a0We are now 1.5 degrees and everybody can see the results of that 0.5 degree rise in temperature. \u00a0Fires, floods and winds. \u00a0Another 0.5 degree rise and 50% of insects that will pollinate our crops will disappear. \u00a0We are set to reach 3% rise. \u00a0Nobody knows what that will do to the planet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Forget about ...
