{"id":7406,"date":"2019-02-26T07:30:08","date_gmt":"2019-02-26T07:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7406"},"modified":"2019-02-26T07:30:08","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T07:30:08","slug":"esd-and-wider-sustainability-academics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/02\/26\/esd-and-wider-sustainability-academics\/","title":{"rendered":"ESD and wider sustainability academics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SHED-SHARE mailbase had a message from its co-ordinator the other day. \u00a0It said:<\/p>\n<p><em>Greetings SHED-ers<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Does anyone know if there have been any conversations with AdvanceHE is establishing an ESD Community of Practice?\u00a0 With push from the community they might be interested, and I think this could provide a route to bring ESD back into the mainstream.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Thoughts appreciated.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I responded that it was news to me that ESD had ever been anywhere near the mainstream \u2013 more like stuck in a backwater \u2013 well away from any current or tide that might be taken at the flood. \u00a0Well, I didn't say that last bit of Shakespeare but might have done had I thought about it long enough.<\/p>\n<p>Response came there none, but we SHED-ers are known for being slow to rise to bait or occasion. \u00a0There was a response from EAUC, however, and a telling one it was. \u00a0Here it is:<\/p>\n<p><em>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eaucconference.org.uk\/\">INFLUENCE!<\/a> Conference in June again has an academic and research paper stream and Journal inclusion, so is a natural opportunity to bring the ESD and wider sustainability academics together to test appetite and focus a collective push into AdvanceHE.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>All ideas very welcome,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Iain Patton,\u00a0<\/em><em>CEO, EAUC-The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The key phrase here was \"<em>bring the ESD and wider sustainability academics together\" <\/em>which more or less says what I have been saying for some years now: that those advocating for ESD in universities completely ignored the wide range of academics who were interested in sustainability but had no time for those who wanted to tell them how to think about it. \u00a0The ESD advocates preferred the purity of their own ideas to the messy business of interacting with those of other people \u2013 often more experienced than they were.<\/p>\n<p>It's nice to see EAUC acknowledging what was a fatal flaw in strategy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SHED-SHARE mailbase had a message from its co-ordinator the other day. \u00a0It said: Greetings SHED-ers Does anyone know if there have been any conversations with AdvanceHE is establishing an ESD Community of Practice?\u00a0 With push from the community they...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":237,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false},"categories":[2,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7406","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-comment","category-news-and-updates"],"acf":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","jetpack-related-posts":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7406","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/237"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7406"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7406\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7406"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7406"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7406"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
