{"id":7432,"date":"2019-04-08T08:56:26","date_gmt":"2019-04-08T08:56:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7432"},"modified":"2019-04-08T08:56:26","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T08:56:26","slug":"encouraging-ofsted-to-do-the-right-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/04\/08\/encouraging-ofsted-to-do-the-right-thing\/","title":{"rendered":"Encouraging Ofsted to do the right thing."},"content":{"rendered":"<div>I've been trying to read the responses from 'the environment \/ environmental education sector' to Ofsted's\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/education-inspection-framework-2019-inspecting-the-substance-of-education\">consultation<\/a> seeking views on its\u00a0proposals for changes to the education inspection framework from September 2019.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>I note that the response from the\u00a0Green Schools Project\u00a0(click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenschoolsproject.org.uk\/new-ofsted-framework-consultation\/\">here<\/a>.) is proving influential with the sector, and this is a <a href=\"http:\/\/naee.org.uk\/naee-response-ofsted\">link<\/a> to what NAEE wrote.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>I was particularly pleased to see this in the response:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\"<em>In particular,\u00a0NAEE thinks that Ofsted\u2019s quality of education judgement needs to take into account the imperilled nature of the biosphere and support and encourage a curriculum that helps young people understand the nature of the problems we face,\u00a0and\u00a0needs to help them\u00a0prepare to play a part in taking positive action in relation to the problems. \u00a0NAEE also thinks that any school not doing this in an age- and pedagogically-appropriate manner ought to be seen by Ofsted as offering an education of poor quality and therefore be judged as requiring improvement<\/em>.\"<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is one of the more robust of the responses I've seen. \u00a0Were it to be implemented, I think it might just concentrate schools' minds. \u00a0Not that it will be, of course ...<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I've been trying to read the responses from 'the environment \/ environmental education sector' to Ofsted's\u00a0consultation seeking views on its\u00a0proposals for changes to the education inspection framework from September 2019.
