{"id":7463,"date":"2019-05-09T06:41:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-09T06:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7463"},"modified":"2019-05-09T06:41:30","modified_gmt":"2019-05-09T06:41:30","slug":"xr-educators-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/05\/09\/xr-educators-agenda\/","title":{"rendered":"XR Educators agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is the agenda for the meeting of <strong>Extinction Rebellion<\/strong>\u00a0[XR] educators that took place in London last night:<\/p>\n<div class=\"\">1. \u00a0<strong>Check in<\/strong> and welcome to new members<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">2. <strong>Updates following Rebellion<\/strong>: total change in media\/political debate; head teachers call for CC classes in school; XR discussions with politicians; NEU resolution on CC; any others?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">3. \u00a0<strong class=\"\">May 24th<\/strong>\u00a0 Hopefully with an update from Youth Strikers. \u00a0Will we be involved? \u00a0If so how? \u00a0If not directly involved should we think about another action at DfE? \u00a0Civil Disobedience? \u00a0Notables? \u00a0What are we demanding? \u00a0Article 12?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">4. \u00a0<strong class=\"\">Supporting radical action in schools, colleges and unis<\/strong>. Students supported to learn independently about CC (economics, politics, ecology); reconnection with nature, esp. in primary schools; how can primary teachers be supported \u2013 less realistic to expect independent learning\/challenge to curriculum from primary students; secondary school\/uni discussion and reading groups \u2013 challenge the curriculum\/system \u2013 exam-based learning as a reflection of neo-liberal society; how can students (esp. disadvantaged) rebel and reclaim agency through independent radical thought, action and self-discipline?; are educators willing to risk their jobs? \u00a0If so, this could be really powerful\u2026 what support would we need to offer?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">5.\u00a0 <strong class=\"\">Drafting a letter from teachers to government<\/strong>\u00a0as XR Doctors are doing. Could also form basis of a kind of manifesto for action.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">6.\u00a0 \u00a0<strong class=\"\">Creating working groups within XR Educators<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">7. \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>AOB<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<div>........................................<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>From my perspective, this is the most interesting action in the country that I\u2019ve seen for a while. \u00a0 I\u2019m tempted to say that it rather puts environmental educators to shame \u2013 but that might be a premature judgement. \u00a0However, given how ineffective\u00a0environmental educators and\u00a0environmental education has been over the years at bringing about curriculum change in UK schools, I do hope not.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is the agenda for the meeting of Extinction Rebellion\u00a0[XR] educators that took place in London last night: 1. \u00a0Check in and welcome to new members 2.
