{"id":7470,"date":"2019-05-14T06:36:04","date_gmt":"2019-05-14T06:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7470"},"modified":"2019-05-14T06:36:04","modified_gmt":"2019-05-14T06:36:04","slug":"the-climate-at-cheney-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/05\/14\/the-climate-at-cheney-school\/","title":{"rendered":"The Climate at Cheney School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I see that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/get-the-climate-crisis-on-the-national-curriculum\">petition<\/a> by the 4 students from Cheney School in Oxford has got to over 71,000 signatures. \u00a0What an achievement.<\/p>\n<p>If you were headteacher of that school what would you think? \u00a0Would you be rather proud? \u00a0Mildly embarrassed? \u00a0Rather annoyed? \u00a0And how would you react publicly? \u00a0Or would you just want to keep quiet ?<\/p>\n<p>I looked at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheney.oxon.sch.uk\">Cheney school<\/a> website the other day hoping to find reference to the petition \u2013 perhaps on a student achievement page \u2013 but I had no luck \u2013 and there doesn't seem to be such a page. \u00a0I then tried a search for 'climate'; another failure. \u00a0Nothing on the extra-curricular activities pages either (a lot of which seemed\u00a0<em>curricular without the extra<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Mind you, the website is very informative. \u00a0There are items on:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 school uniform<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 revision support<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 reporting absence<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 a stand against graffiti<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 a diversity mural<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 exam planning<\/p>\n<p>... and more<\/p>\n<p>But nothing on the enterprising students or climate. \u00a0How odd, some might think. \u00a0How typical, others will sigh. \u00a0How depressing as this silence sends a clear message.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically enough, the motto of the school is \"<em>Think for yourself; act for others<\/em>\" something the four students clearly are doing. \u00a0I'm proud of what they did, and I don't even know them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I see that the petition by the 4 students from Cheney School in Oxford has got to over 71,000 signatures. \u00a0What an achievement.
