{"id":7485,"date":"2019-06-03T07:12:40","date_gmt":"2019-06-03T07:12:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7485"},"modified":"2019-06-03T07:12:40","modified_gmt":"2019-06-03T07:12:40","slug":"1979-and-all-that-education-in-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/06\/03\/1979-and-all-that-education-in-england\/","title":{"rendered":"1979 and all that \u2013 Education in England"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<em><strong>Education in England <\/strong><\/em>(the history of our schools) <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.educationengland.org.uk\/index.html\">website<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0contains HMI publications including the (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.educationengland.org.uk\/documents\/hmi-redbook\/1-1979.html\"><strong>1979<\/strong><\/a>) second edition of its <strong><em>Curriculum 11-16 Working Papers<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0This deals with environmental education because this was a time when HMI took it seriously, unlike Ofsted today. \u00a0But then, HMI thought about curriculum, as did a lot of other groups \u2013 unlike today.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreword to the 1979 volume says:<\/p>\n<p>\"<em>These papers have been overtaken by events and it is important that neither their content nor their purpose should be misunderstood. \u00a0They are working papers written by a group of HMI for discussion by HMI and, we hope, by advisers, schools, groups of teachers and those responsible for the education in our schools. \u00a0They take their place along with all the other writings about the curriculum and with them may contribute to discussion about how schools implement their purposes.
