{"id":7499,"date":"2019-06-20T07:22:02","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T07:22:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7499"},"modified":"2019-06-20T07:22:02","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T07:22:02","slug":"five-go-down-a-funk-hole-at-the-bbc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/06\/20\/five-go-down-a-funk-hole-at-the-bbc\/","title":{"rendered":"Five go down a funk hole at the BBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For me, the worst part of the BBC's lamentable 'debate' on Tuesday night was not the format (clearly designed for 4 candidates), the moderator's failure to be moderate, impartial or in control, or the poorly-constructed questions.<\/p>\n<p>Rather it was the candidates's craven refusal to tell 15 year old Erin Curtis \u2013 a confident schoolgirl in Glasgow and a member of the UKSCN \u2013 that her plans to re-engineer the economy by 2025 and plunge us into poverty were misguided. \u00a0None of them dared tell her she was right about the zero-net carbon aim, but dreadfully wrong about the timing.<\/p>\n<p>I guess they'd all been told not to trash the youth vote. \u00a0What a pity they didn't speak some truth to the new power in the land.<\/p>\n<p>You can read what Erin made of it (not much let me tell you) in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2019\/jun\/19\/tory-leadership-candidates-tv-debate-climate-change\">Guardian<\/a>. \u00a0Meanwhile, there's a proposal for her to be made PM instead.<\/p>\n<p>All I feel is despair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For me, the worst part of the BBC's lamentable 'debate' on Tuesday night was not the format (clearly designed for 4 candidates), the moderator's failure to be moderate, impartial or in control, or the poorly-constructed questions.
