{"id":7588,"date":"2019-11-06T07:25:42","date_gmt":"2019-11-06T07:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7588"},"modified":"2019-11-07T11:35:54","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T11:35:54","slug":"is-there-a-chilly-climate-at-eco-schools-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2019\/11\/06\/is-there-a-chilly-climate-at-eco-schools-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Is there a chilly climate at Eco-Schools UK?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"\">What are Eco-Schools UK doing these days? \u00a0Does anyone know?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">I note that the Eco-Schools UK\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/eco-schools.org.\">homepage<\/a>\u00a0has little to say about the numbers of schools and students involved. \u00a0On the face of it, this might seem to say quite a lot. \u00a0Time was when such numbers would be widely visible partly as a badge of success, but also as a means of drawing others in. \u00a0Why the coyness? \u00a0I know some folk who think that ever since schools have had to pay \u00a3200 (plus VAT) after their Green Flag assessor visit interest has dropped off, but is that really the case? \u00a0 Or is it more fundamental?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">It's notable that the Eco-Schools UK website doesn\u2019t mention climate. \u00a0Have the student climate protests caught them on the hop I wonder. \u00a0Some 12 months after these began, climate isn\u2019t even one of their 10 topics for students to investigate. \u00a0Being part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keepbritaintidy.org\">Keep Britain Untidy<\/a>\u00a0might be part of the problem as it\u2019s not exactly in the vanguard of action re climate and ecology. \u00a0As a test, just try searching its website for \"climate\" and see where it gets you.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>At least the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.keepbritaintidy.org\">Keep Britain Untidy<\/a>\u00a0website (if you dig deeply enough) does say that \"More than 2.3 million children and young people are currently actively engaged in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eco-schools.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eco-Schools<\/a> programme. \u00a0Our ambition is that every child has the chance to learn about the environment and the role they can play in improving it.\" which is more than the Eco-schools website does. \u00a0However, what \"actively engaged\" means is anyone's guess \u2013 as it always was.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So here's a challenge for Eco-Schools: will you be supporting the work of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachthefuture.uk\">Teach the Future<\/a>? \u00a0I shall watch with interest ...<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What are Eco-Schools UK doing these days? \u00a0Does anyone know?
