Over the Summer, I was sent a series of articles<\/a> on global heating on jw.org<\/em> \u2013 the Jehovah's Witnesses website. \u00a0Surprisingly balanced, I thought, (apart from the conclusion that is) given what I suspected might actually be the case. \u00a0The advice to the faithful might be summarised as \"Leave it to Jesus\", as the following shows:<\/p>\n

\"Earth\u2019s Future\u200b\u2014In Good Hands!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

There is only one Leader who can successfully address the problems confronting the world. Concerning him, the Bible foretold: \u00a0<\/span>\u201cUpon him the spirit of Jehovah [God] must settle down, the spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the spirit of counsel and of mightiness, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Jehovah .\u00a0.\u00a0. With righteousness he must judge the lowly ones, .\u00a0.\u00a0. and with the spirit of his lips he will put the wicked one to death.\u201d\u200b\u2014Isaiah 11:2-5<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Who is that One? He is none other than Jesus Christ, who lovingly laid down his life in our behalf. (John 3:16<\/a>) Now a mighty spirit entity, Jesus has been authorized and empowered by God to rule over the earth.\u200b\u2014Daniel 7:13, 14;<\/a> Revelation 11:15<\/a>. \u00a0Contributing to Jesus\u2019 qualifications is his vast knowledge of God\u2019s creation, which he acquired before coming to earth. In fact, untold aeons ago when God formed the physical universe, Jesus was his \u201cmaster worker.\u201d (Proverbs 8:22-31<\/a>) Think about that: Jesus, the very one who helped make the earth and all living things, will take the lead in undoing the damage caused by human folly.<\/em><\/p>\n

Who will Christ\u2019s subjects be? They will be truly meek and righteous people, ones who know the true God, Jehovah, and obey Jesus Christ as Ruler. (Psalm 37:11,<\/a> 29;<\/a> 2\u00a0Thessalonians 1:7,\u00a08<\/a>) Jesus said that they \u201cwill inherit the earth,\u201d which will be transformed into a paradise.\u200b\u2014Matthew 5:5;<\/a> Isaiah 11:6-9;<\/a> Luke 23:43<\/a>. \u00a0How can you put yourself in line to share in the fulfillment of the Bible\u2019s promises? Jesus himself answers: \u201cThis means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.\u201d\u200b\u2014John 17:3<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Yes, our planet may appear to be in peril, but its continued existence as a home for mankind is not in doubt. Rather, peril awaits those who continue to show disrespect for God\u2019s creation and who refuse to obey Jesus Christ. Hence, Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses encourage you to take in the knowledge that leads to everlasting life.\"<\/em><\/p>\n

It reminded me of a discussion on TV in the 1970s between Malcolm Muggeridge and the Archbishop of Armagh. \u00a0They were discussing The Troubles<\/em> and what might be done. \u00a0Muggeridge (who really ought to have been called Smuggeridge) said to the Archbishop: \"Shall we pray together?\" \u00a0 The Archbishop replied that he thought that there might be more practical things to do.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
