{"id":7874,"date":"2021-03-18T08:23:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T08:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=7874"},"modified":"2021-03-18T08:23:47","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T08:23:47","slug":"rhododendrons-must-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2021\/03\/18\/rhododendrons-must-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhododendrons must fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>News comes that Kew Gardens is to decolonise its collection. \u00a0Kew recently published<span class=\"paywall-EAB47CFD\">\u00a0a manifesto for change, saying that it was going to \u201censure the diverse countries and cultures that partner with RBG Kew and contribute to our collections are accurately and equitably represented. \u00a0...\u00a0<\/span>We will move quickly to \u2018decolonise\u2019 our collections, re-examining them to acknowledge and address any exploitative or racist legacies, and develop new narratives around them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kew Director, Richard\u00a0Deverell, said \"We have a lot to do to broaden the narrative around these plants, how they have been used around the world by indigenous communities, how they got to Britain . . .
