{"id":8401,"date":"2023-08-30T09:19:38","date_gmt":"2023-08-30T09:19:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=8401"},"modified":"2023-08-31T07:44:39","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T07:44:39","slug":"best-of-british-litter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2023\/08\/30\/best-of-british-litter\/","title":{"rendered":"Best of British Litter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been a record year at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingfestival.com\">Reading Festival<\/a> \u2013 for litter. \u00a0If you doubt it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thetab.com\/uk\/2023\/08\/29\/in-pictures-the-masses-of-rubbish-and-tents-abandoned-after-bank-holiday-festivals-325986\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The festival made much of its strict policies on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/uk\/news\/heres-the-full-list-of-banned-items-at-reading-and-leeds-festival-2023-082323\">cultural appropriation<\/a> \u2013 no ponchos here please \u2013 but seemed to play down environmental concerns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keepbritaintidy.org\">Keep Britain Untidy<\/a>, which has been failing for 60 years to educate us about not littering seems to be silent. \u00a0Understandably so. \u00a0It is, however, keen to showcase its fast-food partners. \u00a0Maybe it need to partner with tent-makers given how many of their products were abandoned at Reading.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, yesterday's BBC's <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/m001q0sy\">PM programme<\/a> talked with Andy Smith from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kendalcalling.co.uk\">Kendal Calling<\/a> about their \u201cleave nothing but memories, take your tent home\u201d message. \u00a0 It seems that festivals don't have to be egregiously shameless.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s been a record year at the Reading Festival \u2013 for litter. \u00a0If you doubt it\u00a0click here.
