{"id":866,"date":"2011-08-31T15:11:26","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T14:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/?p=866"},"modified":"2011-08-31T15:11:26","modified_gmt":"2011-08-31T14:11:26","slug":"re-think-redesign-survive-prosper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/edswahs\/2011\/08\/31\/re-think-redesign-survive-prosper\/","title":{"rendered":"Re-think, Redesign: Survive &amp; Prosper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I've been watching the latest video from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zCRKvDyyHmI\">You Tube<\/a>. \u00a0Good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>I liked the idea of biodegradable glasses (24 seconds in) and wondered if this is a genuine innovation, or just wishful thinking. \u00a0More seriously, as one of the EMF's key points is that biological components keep their nutrient\u00a0value as they are consumed or die, I think it a shame that we seem to be stuck with the word <em>biodegrade<\/em>, when degrade is just what they do <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> do. \u00a0 Time for a campaign, maybe.<\/p>\n<p>How about <strong><em>biocycle<\/em><\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>Well, this gave 338k hits on Google (or thereabouts), and evidently there are websites, conferences, magazines, bulletins, journals, etc. devoted to nothing else, but how many of these hits relate to ' biocycle ' as a verb? \u00a0Indeed, do any? \u00a0I confess I have not looked at them all.<\/p>\n<p>Along the way, however, I have picked up lots of wise advice. \u00a0The following stand out:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Manure is not a four letter word<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Waste is a verb not a noun<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Just remember where you heard these first. \u00a0Time for some composting ...<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I've been watching the latest video from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation on You Tube. \u00a0Good stuff.
