I've learnt so much in Bath - and not always what, where or when I expected it. The lunchtime research seminars are great for that - who knew plankton and bricks had so much in common?! And it is always great to hear what the person sitting opposite you is working on, as you never see their screen! Doctoral Skills<\/a> are also well worth the effort of choosing wisely. Anything with Trevor Day<\/a> is heartily recommended, on reading or writing or bringing both together. I'm not sure this counts as \"Writing your thesis less painfully in Engineering and Design\", but the words are certainly flowing more freely \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

This is a thank you poem to Toppings Bookshop<\/a> and their speakers. They make you tea or coffee whilst you are browsing so it is a great place to try and find the right book \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Through my love of books,
\nThey drew me in to churches:<\/p>\n

The wise woman, Margaret Atwood,\"\"
\nTalking at St Marys, the church beneath this hill.
\nWise words; an arc of time
\nTaking Shakespeare, and tragedy, and building Hagseed in to hope
\nWith my daughter; beside me
\nAcolyte of light
\nAs the author of the Handmaids Tale
\nConspired to set us free<\/p>\n

Across the town,
\nAnother hall,
\nWe found a dragon\u2019s lair
\nOf art & legend
\nIllustrating,
\nThe way to take us there.\"\"
\nA man who\u2019d learnt from Tolkien,
\nAnd taken him to air,
\nDesigning for the movies;
\nWho drew my husband in.
\nA church with open doors this time -
\nFor the many not the few
\nA place where every servant
\nDeserved a decent pew<\/p>\n

And then we sat right in the store\"\"
\nA cosy, closer, space
\nAs Matt Haig held our thoughts and minds,
\nHe taught us to Stop Time
\nNestled in amongst the books,
\nWhere it was safe to learn,
\nHe shared his insecurities
\nAllowing us to breathe.<\/p>\n

And now with columns risen

\nIt\u2019s time to put the roof on
\nIt\u2019s time to raise a shout<\/p>\n
