Oxford Pain: Interdisciplinary Update Meeting (OPIUM) is a unique meeting designed to encourage collaboration between researchers and clinicians, drawing on Oxford\u2019s international reputation both in pain research and as a centre of clinical excellence.<\/p>\n<p>This year OPIUM has grown to become a 3 day residential meeting in Oriel College, one of the oldest colleges of Oxford University.<\/p>\n<p>The research theme has been developed further to include interactive workshops on current and developing research tools. Our hope is that this will enable clinicians to better understand and appraise research literature, and generate discussion with basic scientists to develop areas of collaborative research relevant to clinical practice.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting is aimed at:<\/p>\n<p>- Clinicians with a pain interest, who wish to further their medical expertise, develop their research appreciation and forge alliances with the research community<br \/>\n- Basic science researchers who wish to understand clinical problems in pain medicine and issues surrounding the translation of research into medical practice, and to develop links with clinicians to advance patient-centred research<\/p>\n<p>The meeting has been organised by:<\/p>\n<p>Dr Jane Quinlan<br \/>\nConsultant in anaesthesia and acute pain management<br \/>\nOxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust<br \/>\nHonorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of Oxford<\/p>\n<p>Speakers include:<\/p>\n<p>Prof Tony Dickenson<br \/>\nUniversity College, London, UK<br \/>\nDescending pathways in the pathophysiology of pain<\/p>\n<p>Prof Herta Flor<br \/>\nMannheim, Germany<br \/>\nBrain mechanisms of phantom limb pain<\/p>\n<p>Lt Col John Etherington<br \/>\nDirector Defence rehabilitation, UK<br \/>\nMilitary experience of rehabilitation after amputation<\/p>\n<p>Dr Beverly Collett<br \/>\nUniversity Hospitals of Leicester, UK<br \/>\nThe politics of pain<\/p>\n<p>Prof Chris Eccleston<br \/>\nDirector, Centre for Pain Research, Bath, UK<br \/>\nCBT for pain relief<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 3 day meeting held at Oriel College, Oxford from Thursday 16th December until Saturday 18th December 2010.
